Ever since the New York Mets decided to move forward from Pete Alonso, multiple teams have come out to be the possible new home for the first baseman. One such team is the Toronto Blue Jays, which have shown great interest in hiring Alonso. However, according to an MLB insider, the Blue Jays are not as great a fit for Alonso as the Mets. Here are details on the insider's take:

MLB critic feels Blue Jays are 'next-best' option for Pete Alonso

Mets owner Steve Cohen has previously made it clear to the fans that the team has given up on the exhausting contract discussions with Pete Alonso. However, the team hasn't given up on wanting Alonso back, and there's still a possibility for the same. The Toronto Blue Jays have shown great interest in hiring Pete Alonso. However, according to MLB insider Keegan Matheson, the Blue Jays have already made peace with the fact that they might be the "next-best option" for Alonso after the Mets. Talking about the same via Blue Jay Insider, Matheson said:"Pete Alonso's market -- and some of the reporting around it -- has been ... unique. Yes, the Blue Jays like Alonso, but this continues to feel like a situation where Alonso is waiting for the Mets. Like they've done many times in past pursuits, the Blue Jays can position themselves well as the next-best option here."
"It may be enough in the end, but my eyes are still on the Mets. Adding Alonso to this lineup on a three- or four-year deal would be quite an upgrade for the Blue Jays. If any team has the money to steal the slugger from the Mets, it's the Blue Jays," Matheson further added.
Interestingly, if Pete Alonso decided to return to the Mets, the team might not be able to pay him more than $340 Million. MLB insider Andy Martino recently talked about the same in his report on Tuesday and said: "We’ve written this before, but the Mets’ stance on Alonso as a player and person has remained consistent: They like him, and have wanted him back all along. Now that they have pivoted, bringing Alonso back at a similar three-year deal with opt outs to the one he rejected would push them into uncomfortable payroll territory, perhaps the $330-$340 million range."Also Read: Pete Alonso and the Mets are back at the negotiating table after the star rejected a $70 million deal, according to famous MLB insider
