'Team has the money': MLB insider claims Pete Alonso has better signing chances with Blue Jays over Mets

However, according to MLB insider Keegan Matheson, the Blue Jays have already made peace with the fact that they might be the "next-best option" for Alonso after the Mets. Talking about the same via Blue Jay Insider, Matheson said:"Pete Alonso's market -- and some of the reporting around it -- has been ... unique. Yes, the Blue Jays like Alonso, but this continues to feel like a situation where Alonso is waiting for the Mets. Like they've done many times in past pursuits, the Blue Jays can position themselves well as the next-best option here.""It may be enough in the end, but my eyes are still on the Mets. Adding Alonso to this lineup on a three- or four-year deal would be quite an upgrade for the Blue Jays. If any team has the money to steal the slugger from the Mets, it's the Blue Jays," Matheson further added. Interestingly, if Pete Alonso decided to return to the Mets, the team might not be able to pay him more than $340 Million. MLB insider Andy Martino recently talked about the same in his report on Tuesday and said: "We’ve written this before, but the Mets’ stance on Alonso as a player and person has remained consistent: They like him, and have wanted him back all along.
