Red Sox backlash grows as Boston loyalist blasts Alex Bregman exit and Rafael Devers trade

Rafael Devers and Alex Bregman are no longer with the Boston Red Sox, and the way it happened has left many fans angry and confused. The Red Sox began the 2025 season with both star third basemen on their roster. But as the new season approaches in early 2026, the team has neither player. What once looked like strong depth at third base has now turned into one of the most talked-about front office mistakes in recent team history.

On Sunday morning, January 18, 2026, Red Sox loyalist and baseball media personality Jared Carrabis spoke openly about the situation on his podcast. Carrabis, who is based in Boston and closely follows the team, said the Red Sox badly mishandled both Rafael Devers and Alex Bregman. His comments quickly spread across social media as fans reacted to how fast the team lost two franchise-level players.

Jared Carrabis did not hide his feelings when speaking about Boston’s decisions. While discussing the moves, he said the team gave up Rafael Devers only to make room for Alex Bregman, who stayed just one season before leaving as well.

Carrabis explained that even fans who had concerns about contracts or defense still expected the Red Sox to protect at least one of their stars.

In early 2025, the Red Sox shocked the baseball world by signing Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million deal.

The contract included opt-out clauses after the first and second seasons. Bregman arrived in Boston with high expectations and quickly became the everyday third baseman.

That signing immediately placed Rafael Devers in an uncertain spot. Devers, who had spent his entire MLB career with Boston, was moved between designated hitter and first base during the 2025 season.



Tension grew inside the clubhouse, and by mid-season, Boston’s front office decided to trade Devers to the San Francisco Giants.

At the time, many fans believed the team had chosen Bregman as their new long-term third baseman. But that plan fell apart quickly.

After the 2025 season ended, Alex Bregman used his opt-out clause and chose free agency. In December 2025, he signed with the Chicago Cubs, leaving Boston after only one year.

The move stunned fans, especially because the Red Sox had already parted ways with Rafael Devers months earlier.

This deprived the Red Sox of one of their two star third basemen heading into the season. Boston is today looking for consistency in one of the most critical places on the field instead of around Devers or Bregman.

The league is currently negotiating this incident quite frequently.
