The Boston Red Sox are in trouble, and somewhere, it's their fault. When Triston Casas was taken out of the game due to a left knee injury, the Red Sox management turned to their most reliable player, Rafael Devers, asking him to move to first base. Now, what would have been a normal conversation between the player and the management turned out to be a full-fledged drama.

Rafael Devers on being asked to change positions

When the Red Sox management turned to Devers, thinking the player would willingly change his position from designated hitter to first base, they did not think that Devers would say no. Yes, Rafael firmly denied moving to first base, and he has good reasons to back his decision. When asked in an interview about why he was not willing to move positions, the player replied,“I don't think, for me personally, it's the best decision after they asked me to play a different position. And I only had two months playing this position to all of a sudden have me try to play another position. So, from my end, it doesn't seem like a good decision.”
He further added,“I know I'm a ballplayer, but at the same time, they can't expect me to play every single position out there."Besides, it seemed that Devers was more upset with Craig Breslow, the Red Sox’s chief baseball officer, for not understanding how difficult it is to move positions continuously.“I'm not certain what he has with me. He played ball. I would like to think that he knows that a change to position like that isn't easy.”Though Devers has firmly said no to changing positions and that too with valid reasons backing his decision, it remains to be seen if the Red Sox management will convince the player. The manager, Alex Cora, has not yet given any statement on the situation.

Rafael Devers’ performance as DH

After taking up the position of DH, that too after a lot of drama over the third base position, Rafael has been performing quite well. This season, Devers has scored 6 home runs and collected 25 RBIs, which has switched up his batting average to .255. In the last match against Rangers, Devers alone made a solo home run and had 2 RBIs. His performance as a DH is turning out to be amazing compared to his previous third baseman position. Also Read: “He's certainly athletic enough” - MLB insider suggests Red Sox’s outfielder's name for Triston Casas replacement
