A small but shocking moment inside the clubhouse suddenly became the talk of Spring Training for the New York Yankees. Right before a Spring Training game, Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler walked to his locker at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida, expecting a normal pregame routine. Instead, the 25-year-old pitcher found something he did not expect at all, a spider sitting inside his locker. Schlittler quickly stepped back. Rather than trying to deal with the spider himself, he decided to call the team’s security staff to handle it. According to the YES Network, security members came in and safely removed the spider before the game against the Detroit Tigers. No one inside the clubhouse was sure what kind of spider it was. But for Schlittler, the safest move was simply letting someone else take care of it. The strange moment soon spread across social media. Fans joked about the situation, while many admitted they might have reacted the same way. The incident added a surprising story to the Yankees’ Spring Training camp in Tampa.

For Cam Schlittler, the discovery happened just hours before the Yankees were scheduled to play the Detroit Tigers at Steinbrenner Field.
Instead of touching the spider or trying to remove it himself, the pitcher asked security for help. The moment was first shared by YES Network reporter Meredith Marakovits, who covers the Yankees during Spring Training. Later, Schlittler confirmed the story himself with a short post online.“A spider was successfully extracted from my locker today. Best security team in the league!” Schlittler wrote.Fans quickly reacted online. Many found the moment funny and very relatable. One fan wrote on X, “Cam Schlittler calling New York Yankees security for spider removal might be the most relatable pregame routine ever.” Another fan joked, “Security!? I would have set the locker on fire.” While the spider created a strange moment in the clubhouse, Schlittler’s focus remains on baseball. The young pitcher is entering the second MLB season of his career. The Yankees selected him in the seventh round of the 2022 MLB Draft, and he made his major league debut in 2025.During his rookie year, Schlittler made several appearances for the team and began building a role in the pitching group. Now, during Spring Training, he is trying to show that he can take on a bigger role in the Yankees’ rotation this season. The Yankees also dealt with another unusual problem earlier in Spring Training. In February, a sewage leak at the Tampa stadium caused disruption around the facility.Next, the Yankees are scheduled to face the Tampa Bay Rays at Charlotte Sports Park on Tuesday, March 17. For now, though, one tiny spider has already produced one of the most talked-about stories of the Yankees’ Spring Training camp.
