Mookie Betts left the Red Sox to join the Los Angeles Dodgers due to a lack of "positivity" in Boston's locker room. That's the main reason why Betts has been trying to make Dodgers a more comfortable place for newcomers like Roki Sasaki. Recently, the Dodgers star opened up about embracing his responsibilities as a leader.

Mookie Betts talked about mentoring Roki Sasaki and other newcomers

On Sunday, the “Dodger Blue” released an interview with Mookie Betts, during which he opened up about embracing his role as a leader, in making the locker room a comfortable space for newcomers like Roki Sasaki. Betts claimed that even though it's not his job, he takes pride in mentoring the youngsters.

“That’s not my job. It’s just something I take pride in doing. I’m here for a long time and I understand where I’m at in my career and how people view me. It took a little time to understand it, but I get it now. I understand I can help him feel comfortable and I’m going to do everything I can to make him comfortable,” Betts said.

Moving forward in his statement, Mookie Betts explained how making the newcomers like Roki Sasaki and Hyeseong Kim comfortable would eventually benefit the team. Concluding his statement, Betts said:

"Because at the end of the day with him comfortable, that will be the best player in Kim that we can get. Just got to do it. Just got to figure it out. It’s the cards you’re dealt. It’s what God has blessed me with, the ability to be a quote-unquote leader and perform. So I’m really just doing God’s work."

Last month, Mookie Betts was interviewed by USA TODAY, during which the Dodgers star talked about the reason for leaving the Boston Red Sox. Blaming the Red Sox's "no positive" environment for his decision to join the Dodgers, Betts said:

“I think I would have been really good. But I never had the opportunity. I couldn’t throw then, either. Nobody told me how to throw, then. And for myself, I didn’t think I could it either. There was no positivity instilled in me."

While Mookie Betts prepared for the upcoming regular season, his wife Brianna recently launched his new venture called the "Mom Diaries", which focuses on empowering women.
