FanSided writer Mark Powell explained why many around baseball expect Alcantara’s name to stay in trade talks this year. Powell wrote, “It’s early, but Sandy Alcantara seems like the most likely player to be traded at the deadline.” He also pointed toward Miami’s difficult position in the National League standings and the organization’s history of moving veteran talent for younger prospects.

For Toronto, adding a pitcher like Alcantara could completely change the outlook of the rotation during the second half of the season.

Heavy.com’s Patrick McAvoy recently discussed Toronto as one possible landing spot for Alcantara, although he admitted a deal may still be difficult to complete. McAvoy wrote, “The Blue Jays need a hurler now and Alcántara is a superstar. The Blue Jays should give the Miami Marlins a call.”

The Blue Jays have dealt with uncertainty around their pitching staff this year, especially after concerns involving Jose Berrios and Shane Bieber’s recovery situation. Because of that, Toronto could look for another dependable starter before August.

Still, trading for Alcantara would not be simple. Miami would likely demand several high-level prospects in return because Alcantara remains one of the top pitchers who could become available before the deadline. The Marlins may also prefer to wait until later in the summer before making any major decisions.
