Amidst the back and forth with the Mets' contract discussion, what fans are most concerned about is - is Pete Alonso still interested in getting re-signed with the Mets? According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Alonso has been "desperately" hoping for the Mets to re-sign him. Talking about the same in his recent report with the New York Post, he said:

Truly, it’s hard to know what to make of the ongoing saga involving the National League’s top home run hitter since he came into the league and one of the most prolific in the history of the franchise. But from my drama-free distance, it feels like Alonso desperately hopes to return while the Mets could go either way.

While there would be nothing better than getting retained by the Mets, Pete Alonso hasn't been holding himself back from exploring better options. Talking about the Mets decision, the star left fielder Brandon Nimmo recently shared his reaction and said:

"Surprised? I can't be surprised with somebody's decision. I mean, it's his decision. Pete should maximize. Pete should make the best decision for him and his family. It's a tough question because it's something that, 'Am I surprised with someone's thoughts?' Pete's been here since I've been here, he's been here before me.

Before sharing his reaction, Brandon Nimmo expressed how he's happy for Pete Alonso and, not to mention how he wants him back on the team. Talking about the same, Nimmo said:

"I would love to see Pete back with us. But I also understand that I don't make those decisions and that's between Pete and our front office and David [Stearns] and Steve [Cohen]. From what I understand, there have been a lot of talks between them. I'm still hopeful that we'll sign him.

Apart from Brandon Nimmo, Mets star pitcher Edwin Diaz also shared his candid reaction to Pete Alonso's dismissed team comeback.
