MLB free agency watch: Closer look at remaining stars after Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette moves

The 2025-26 free-agency period in the MLB has been one of the busiest in recent history, as some of the top position players such as Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette have finally landed new homes, with Tucker awarding a four-year $240 million contract to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Bichette signing a 3-year $126 million contract with the New York Mets upon rejecting a qualifying offer with the Blue Jays.

Such blockbuster signings have changed the outlook and propelled teams to their next goals as they complete rosters prior to the onset of Spring Training. Despite the removal of the best names, there are still a few big free agents and up-and-coming stars, and the hot stove is still hot with clubs looking to strike a balance between offense, pitching, and depth going into 2026.

List of best remaining free agents and teams

Cody Bellinger can be considered the biggest remaining position-player free agent now that Tucker and Bichette are no longer available. Bellinger is known as a powerful and capable outfielder and first baseman, and he remains a target for several clubs, including the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Mets, to acquire an impact bat before the season starts.


Belinger is not the only one moving into the pitching role, and other veteran players are as well. The remaining free agents, like Framber Valdez, will be starting pitchers, and teams interested in adding to their rotation may either sign him or pursue a trade. Relievers, catchers, and rotation arms would be important fits for clubs unable to acquire elite hitters.

As the spring training approaches, it is still only weeks away, and likely more signings, restructurings, and potential trade explosions as front offices attempt to fill competitive rosters.

Post-great signing shake-up in the market

The waves caused by the signings of Tucker and Bichette have spread throughout the league. The teams that formerly aimed at those stars are changing focus to other available talent or redoubling efforts to identify in-house gaps by creating new options and trades. The new wave of moves could still determine both contenders and challengers with multiple influential free agents remaining unpunched as the Opening Day clock approaches.
