Jurickson Profar banned for entire 2026 MLB season while brother Juremi Profar grabs attention with Netherlands at World Baseball Classic

While Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar continues to deal with a major suspension in Major League Baseball, another member of his family is quietly making his mark on the international stage. His younger brother, Juremi Profar, is currently representing Team Netherlands at the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Jurickson Profar, who made his MLB debut in 2012, had recently signed a three year contract worth $42 million with the Atlanta Braves after two strong seasons with the San Diego Padres. But his time in Atlanta quickly turned difficult.

In his first season with the team, he was suspended for 80 games after testing positive for a banned performance enhancing substance. Then on March 3, he failed another PED test, which led to a suspension for the entire 2026 MLB regular season. As fans continue to talk about Jurickson Profar’s absence from the field, attention has also turned to his younger brother. Juremi Profar, who has spent years building his own baseball career around the world, is now part of the Netherlands roster at the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Juremi Profar builds his own baseball path while brother Jurickson Profar misses 2026 season

Juremi Profar may not be as widely known as his older brother Jurickson Profar, but he has spent more than a decade working through professional baseball. The infielder first entered professional baseball when he signed with the Texas Rangers organization in 2012.

During his time with the Rangers, Juremi Profar played several seasons in the minor league system. He worked his way up through different levels and eventually reached Triple A. He stayed in the Rangers system for about seven years before becoming a free agent after the 2019 season.

After leaving Texas, Juremi Profar signed a minor league deal with the Boston Red Sox. However, his stay there was short. The organization released him the following year.

Instead of stepping away from the game, Juremi Profar continued searching for opportunities to keep playing. Over the next few years, he played baseball in several countries. His journey took him to leagues in Mexico, Canada, and Italy. More recently, he also played in Pakistan.

At the moment, Juremi Profar is part of the Karachi Monarchs, a team competing in United Baseball. This league includes teams from the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.

Now, Juremi Profar is representing Team Netherlands in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Inside the Dutch clubhouse, he shares space with well known MLB stars such as Ozzie Albies and Xander Bogaerts.

Both Juremi Profar and Jurickson Profar were born in Willemstad, the capital city of Curaçao. Although Curaçao sits in the Caribbean, it is a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Because of this connection, players born there are eligible to represent the Netherlands in international competitions like the World Baseball Classic.

Jurickson Profar was not included on the Netherlands roster this year because his suspension made him ineligible to play. But his younger brother Juremi remains an important part of the team during the 2026 tournament.
