Juan Soto joins $2.2B Dominican Republic roster aiming for World Baseball Classic glory

Juan Soto officially agreed to play for the Dominican Republic in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, which provides the tournament with one of the largest headline figures. The 28-year-old New York Mets player stated he will play in the Dominican team, which aims at recapturing its glory with a team ranked with some of the best MLB players and with an astronomical value.

Juan Soto’s star power and WBC pedigree

Soto goes to the 2026 WBC as one of the most talented hitters of his generation. It consists of 1,096 games in total, in which his batting average is .282, 244 HR, 697 RBI, 775 runs scored, 95 stolen bases, and an OPS of .948. His profile is also at historic heights, having signed a 15-year, record-breaking, $765 million contract with the Mets last season, the largest in the history of the MLB.


Internationally, Soto has already proven his impact. During the 2023 World Baseball Classic, he was one of the tournament’s standout performers despite the Dominican Republic’s early exit. In just 15 at-bats, Soto collected six hits, launched two home runs, and posted a remarkable 1.500 OPS. Coming off a career year that included 43 home runs, a .921 OPS, 38 stolen bases, and another league-leading walk total, expectations for his 2026 WBC performance are sky-high.

A $2.2 billion roster chasing redemption

The Dominican Republic has all the makings of an MLB All-Star line with Soto on the board.
