Jac Caglianone, Kansas City’s most exciting prospect since Bobby Witt Jr., is being called up to the Major Leagues. After putting up big numbers in the Minors, the 22-year-old is expected to make his big league debut Tuesday in St. Louis. The Royals haven’t announced it yet, but several reports say the power-hitting prospect is on his way

The numbers made it impossible to wait

Caglianone wasn’t just good in the Minors—he was dominant. In 50 games at each level, Payton hit .322, hit 15 homers and drove in 56 runs off opponents’ mistakes, whether in a fastball or a curve tossed too low. The Royals wanted to keep him at the minor league level for a bit longer, but his strong batting made that plan impossible to follow.
Drafted sixth overall in 2024 out of Florida, Caglianone was known as a two-way player in college. He had a solid arm in college, but it was his powerful left-handed swing that really got people talking. Back in Spring Training, the Royals noticed that Julio seriously stood out from others. Everyone on the team, including coaches, saw that he was skilled and also put in a lot of effort away from practice.

A huge boost for the Kansas City Royals’ offense

Let’s face it—Kansas City needs offense, and fast.
The Royals rank near the bottom of the league in runs scored, averaging just 3.3 per game. Despite a solid 31-29 record, most of that success has come from a pitching staff that’s held things together. Their recent 1-0 loss to the Tigers only made the offensive gap more glaring. Also Read: Jac Caglianone's triple-A promotion confirms Royals confidence in their top slugger's big league potentialCaglianone brings the kind of power Kansas City’s lineup has been starving for. Sure, he’s still ironing out a few things with his swing decisions, but if he settles in, he could become a real threat in the heart of the order—something this offense badly needs.Caglianone is set to link up with the team in St. Louis, but the real buzz will be back home when he steps onto the field at Kauffman Stadium on June 10th against the Yankees. And if his minor league numbers are any hint of what’s to come, the debut could be electric.
