Two years ago, Marcell Ozuna — outfielder with the Atlanta Braves, had addressed how apologetic he felt over the charges of aggravated assault by strangulation and battery, where he was involved in attacking his wife, as per cops. Ozuna back then, had apologized to his team when he told them he had made a mistake.
When Marcell Ozuna was suspended over domestic violence charges
Marcell Ozuna has had a career, where he has played with Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, and then with the Atlanta Braves. Ozuna was involved in attacking his wife, and the case got national attention. He was arrested for domestic violence in May 2021.
Marcell Ozuna arrested on domestic violence charges
The police had responded to a domestic violence issue at his Atlanta home. The cops alleged they saw Ozuna assault his wife. He was later arrested. The felony charge was later dropped in July.
After MLB conducted the investigation, they retroactively levied an unpaid suspension of 20 regular-season games for violating the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.
Marcell Ozuna said he felt apologetic for everything he had done
While he was placed on administrative leave during the MLB’s investigation into the matter, since his arrest, Ozuna returned to the team in May 2022. Back then, Ozuna had said that he spoke to the team and he felt apologetic because he made a mistake. He said:
"Yeah, I talked to my team, I spoke to my team and said, 'I'm sorry, I made a mistake.’”
Marcell Ozuna was also made to undergo a complete 24-week family violence intervention program. He was also asked to do 200 hours of community service and an anger management course.
Back then, Ozuna had responded positively to the counselling sessions. He said he learned everything and how to become a better human being. He said:
"I learned everything, I learned how you treat a person, how you be a better person, how you be the best daddy, how you be a human being. You learn everything from that."
Marcel Ozuna displayed exceptional skills during spring training
This year, during spring training, Marcelll Ozuna displayed his return with solid numbers. He had a slower end to the previous season. In 47 plate appearances, more than half of Ozuna’s 11 hits were extra base efforts.
