Arizona Diamondbacks lock in Geraldo Perdomo with a long-term deal
Arizona's decision to extend Perdomo's contract solidifies the team’s infield stability. He has been with Arizona since 2016, after he signed out from the Dominican Republic. Making his MLB debut in 2021, Perdomo became the starting shortstop of the Diamondbacks in 2022, standing out with his defensive skills, while working on improving the offensive game.
Perdomo breakthrough season came in 2023. He then earned the All-Star selection, helping lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to the World Series appearance. Even though he was limited to 98 games due to the knee injury last season, Perdomo still managed to give his career base a .273 batting average, maintaining defensive prowess.
Geraldo Perdomo is a key piece in the Arizona Diamondbacks' future plans
Extension of Perdomo is part of the team’s long-term strategy for being competitive in the National League West. He joins the core group of the players, including Ketel Marte, Corbin Carroll and Corbin Burnes, all signed to multi-year deals.
Despite Perdomo not being known for his power, the ability of his to get on the base and the place discipline, makes him a valuable asset to the team. His leadership was praised by manager Torey Lovullo, who called him "a coach’s dream" for his on-field intelligence and the clubhouse presence.
With the deal made, the Diamondbacks continue reinforcing the roster. They aim to challenge the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers, making another deep postseason run.
