The Cactus League debut remains uncertain as Fernando Tatis Jr. is still dealing with illness and requires a little more time for recovery than expected. As acknowledged by MLB.com's Padres beat reporter AJ Cassavell on Monday, it's unclear when Fernando Tatis Jr. will make his debut.

"He's going to require a little bit more recovery," manager Mike Shildt stated. While it becomes a matter of concern as it's not clear what kind of illness Fernando Tatis Jr. is dealing with. As per sources, Fernando Tatis Jr. also missed quite a few workout sessions with fellow teammates before the league where he was anticipated to participate.
However, there's still plenty of time left for the opening day of Cactus League which is going to be held by the end of March and it's still spring. As it's normal Spring training for the players, it's very usual for them to adjust to the environment. As his manager stated they want Fernando Tatis Jr. to be back in proper form as for them health is more important for Fernando Tatis Jr. than his debut.

Mike Shildt further stated that Fernando Tatis Jr. must return strong and healthy after recovering from his illness and eventually they can plan the debut for the Cactus League as per the time frame. Mike also hopes that Fernando Tatis Jr. will be back for his game feeling good. Others stated as there's plenty of time for the League to begin, Tatis can take time to recover from his illness.
Fernando Tatis Jr. is still a significant addition to the team as he's one of the dynamics in baseball and it gives him an advantage to be selected. It's also a changing point for Tatis as it will be his debut in the Cactus League. Even if there's plenty of time for him to recover if the illness is reduced, the team also needs to discuss their backup strategy. There should be substitutes that can match the power of Tatis if he does not return for his debut this time.
