Sri Lankan middle-order batsman Kamindu Mendis etched his name in the record books in Galle on Friday, becoming only the fourth cricketer to score 1,000 runs in just 13 Test innings. At 25 years old, Mendis has played only eight Test matches since making his debut two years ago at the same venue against Australia. However, he has quickly established himself as a standout hitter. Since March, he has participated in six of those matches, where he notched his first Test century against Bangladesh. His unbeaten 182 against New Zealand on Friday propelled him to equal third-fastest to reach the 1,000-run milestone, alongside Australia's Donald Bradman, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the sport's history.
