Who is Mack Powell? Meet Ariarne Titmus’ boyfriend as the Olympic champion starts life after her swimming retirement
Ariarne Titmus, the four-time Olympic champion, recently announced her retirement as a professional swimmer. She is the reigning Olympic champion in the women's 400-metre freestyle, having won her last gold back in 2024. And while many believed she would come back for one more stint, the 25-year-old decided to take a step back from the competitive scene and announced in October 2025 that she was done.
She is now taking her time to enjoy being with her friends and family, and also went public with her boyfriend, Mack Powell in January. She was taking time off after the 2024 Olympic win, and has been frequently seen hanging out with Powell - sometimes out on a hot air balloon date, or sometimes just chilling by the beach. Now that she has announced her retirement, there are also rumors of an upcoming wedding, although the couple has not made any such disclosure. For now, let's learn a little more about Powell, and how their relationship has blossomed over time.
Ariarne Titmus met her now boyfriend, Mack Powell, after the Tokyo Olympics in 2024. While information about Powell's personal life is mostly kept out of the spotlight, it has been said that he is an investment analyst. Titmus has credited him for being the one who showed her that she had a life beyond swimming. She has also revealed how he helped her on deciding to retire after such a successful career.
She has stepped away from the demanding life of an Olympic level swimmer and has decided to focus on her family and personal life. In a recent interview with Stellar Magazine, she said, “I’ve lived my life not caring that I never got to spend birthdays with my friends or attend family events because I had to be in bed for training. I didn’t really get to enjoy time with my family over Christmas or Easter, because my focus was always on swimming.”
But meeting Powell changes her priorities in life, and now she wants to enjoy her life as more than just an accomplished swimmer. “I met my partner right after the Olympics, and I wasn’t willing to return to the life I’d always known, one where I constantly put my family second. Swimming has always come first, and they’ve understood that. But to be an athlete, you have to be a bit selfish.” And now she is ready to put herself first before her sports.
Ariarne Titmus made the decision to step away from the life of a professional swimmer after winning four medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics -- two gold, one silver, and one bronze. She has a total of eight Olympic medals to her name, having competed in the 2020 and the 2024 Summer Olympics. And a year after a successful Olympics campaign, she wrote a beautiful and heartfelt letter to herself to announce to the world that she was ready to retire.
She ended the poignant letter to her younger self on a hopeful note looking at the future. She said that it was time to put herself first before the sport she has loved and prioritized all her life until now. But having achieved all that she had over the years, it was time to let go of the past and look at the future. "You’re fulfilled, content and happy. What’s ahead for you is exciting. New goals, more time with the people you love most and the chance to wholeheartedly put yourself, not your sport first."
While her base is Queensland, recent rumors state that she has made a move to Melbourne to be with her boyfriend, who is based out of there. She also has friends and family there, and is enjoying a change in pace in her life after retirement. The couple are taking their time spending it with each other, and were recently spotted out on a date.
