One race official died and another suffered serious injuries after two emergency vehicles crashed while rushing to help a driver at Kennedale Speedway Park near Fort Worth. The accident happened late in the race program when driver Marcus Thomas reportedly flipped his car on the track. Safety crews immediately moved in to respond. During that response, two emergency vehicles collided with each other.
Event organizers confirmed the tragic outcome in a statement released Sunday morning. They said one official suffered fatal injuries while another official was seriously hurt. The rest of the race night was stopped and later postponed as officials began investigating what happened. The names of the two officials involved have not been released yet. Officials have also not provided an update on Marcus Thomas after his crash.

Sprint car driver Carson Macedo spoke about the incident on X on Sunday morning. He asked people across the racing world to keep the officials and their families in their thoughts.
Carson Macedo wrote, “Please keep the World of Outlaws family in your thoughts and prayers after last night’s horrible incident. Praying hard for the officials, their families, and everyone involved.”
Fans who were inside Kennedale Speedway Park also shared emotional messages online. Some said the moment of the intense crash shocked the entire crowd. One fan explained how quickly the situation turned serious while safety teams were trying to help.
The fan wrote on X, “They were both going to the accident site. It shows how much respect we need to give these safety responders. They put their lives at risk to ensure the safety of the drivers. I hope we do a race in honor of the safety crew in the future.”
Another person who was watching from the grandstands described the moment the vehicles hit each other. The fan said, “I’ll never forget the sound it made when they collided, the whole crowd just gasped and then silence. I was sitting in the pit grandstands, immediately knew it was a bad deal.”
Many others shared messages of sympathy for the official who died. One message read, “Deepest condolences to all that knew the Official who tragically passed away. Prayers for a speedy recovery to the Official who was injured.”
The World of Outlaws tour is one of the most popular dirt track racing series in the United States. Fans often call it “the greatest show on dirt.” The national series travels across many states and has races scheduled through November this season.
