UNC defensive lineman D’Antre Robinson leaves Bill Belichick to join Dan Lanning’s Oregon in transfer portal move

D’Antre Robinson, the defensive lineman who played for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has officially committed to the University of Oregon Ducks through the NCAA Transfer Portal, the school announced on January 18, 2026. Robinson made this move after just one season with the Tar Heels football team. He first came to UNC from the University of Florida before the 2025 season. In his season with North Carolina, he appeared in 12 games and recorded 38 tackles, half a sack, and a forced fumble, according to transfer reports.

This transfer comes at a tough time for head coach Bill Belichick and his UNC program. The Tar Heels struggled to a 4–8 record in 2025 under Belichick’s leadership, finishing near the bottom of the Atlantic Coast Conference and prompting wide discussions about the direction of the team.

D’Antre Robinson commits to Oregon as Dan Lanning adds key defensive lineman from UNC

D’Antre Robinson is now set to join head coach Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks for the upcoming season.

Robinson entered the transfer portal on January 11, 2026, and chose Oregon after visiting the campus and meeting with coaches, turning down other options such as Auburn.

Having an amazing 13-2 whole record last year, the Ducks offered Robinson a chance to compete for championships and hone his skills nationally.

After a challenging 2025 season, Robinson leaves UNC to augment the rising list of players leaving the program.

Oregon's defense might really benefit from his expertise of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Starting 11 games in 2024 as a genuine freshman, he had 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and three tackles for loss at Florida, proving his capacity to perform under duress at top collegiate football levels.

Robinson is looking ahead to Oregon; head coach at UNC, Bill Belichick, is also grabbing headlines off the field.

After a 4–8 season in 2025, Bill Belichick has taken on a role as a guest analyst for ESPN’s ACC Network coverage of the College Football Playoff national championship game between the University of Miami (FL) Hurricanes and the Indiana University Hoosiers, set to take place on January 19, 2026, at Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida.

Belichick, widely known for his legendary NFL coaching career, will join other analysts to break down plays and talk college football.

This role follows his regular media appearances in recent years, including on the “Manningcast” and other ESPN programs. Despite the tough 2025 season with UNC, Belichick has said he plans to stay with the Tar Heels and continue building the team.
