McIlroy explained that Woods struggles with sleep and often trains late. But these late-night texts did not always go down well at home. He said, “Erica actually got p***ed off with it. He was texting me in the middle of the night and I was like, ‘Tiger is in the gym.’”

Even so, this shows how comfortable they are with each other. Woods was McIlroy’s hero growing up. McIlroy watched him as a kid and later got the chance to play with him in 2010. Over time, that respect turned into a real friendship.

McIlroy once said, “He’s an intriguing character… you could spend two hours with him and see four different sides.” He also praised Woods for being thoughtful and always learning.

Their bond grew even stronger after Woods’s serious car crash in 2021. McIlroy visited him during recovery, showing how close they had become off the course.

However, things are not smooth for Woods right now. He recently faced legal trouble after a car crash in Florida. Police said he showed signs of impairment, though Woods told them he had not been drinking and had taken medication earlier.

He has been charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing a lawful test. Woods has pleaded not guilty and is set to appear in court on May 5. Reports also say he has traveled to Switzerland for rehab.
