Tiger Woods finally spoke publicly again after staying silent for nearly two months, and this time, his message was deeply personal. On Memorial Day, the golf legend shared an emotional tribute to American soldiers while also remembering his late father, Earl Woods, whose military service shaped a huge part of his life. The 15-time major champion posted the message on X on Monday afternoon. It was the first time fans had heard directly from him since March 31, when Tiger Woods announced he would step away from public life and enter treatment following his March car accident and DUI arrest in Florida.
In his Memorial Day message, Woods honored fallen military members and spoke proudly about his father’s time in the Army. “My father was a Special Forces operator with two tours in Vietnam and 20 years of service,” Woods wrote on X. “To all those like my father, we all say thank you for your sacrifices. Without them we wouldn’t have the greatest country on Earth.”
Earl Woods died in May 2006 at the age of 74, but Tiger Woods has often spoken about the massive impact his father had on both his golf career and personal life.
Tiger Woods returns publicly while rehab process and Vanessa Trump support continue
Before Monday’s message, Tiger Woods had completely disappeared from public view after his March 27 crash in Florida. The golfer was later charged with two misdemeanors, DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Reports said Woods recorded 0.00 on breathalyzer tests, but police still charged him after he refused to take a urine test.
Just days later, on April 1, Woods received permission to leave the country and enter what court documents described as “comprehensive inpatient treatment.” Multiple reports later linked him to a rehabilitation facility in Switzerland.
Earlier this month, Woods briefly returned to Florida. According to reports, his private plane landed at Palm Beach International Airport on May 13. Many people believed that meant his treatment was over. However, reports on Sunday said the plane had already returned to Switzerland, suggesting the rehabilitation process is still ongoing.
Tiger Woods has not explained why he made the short trip back to the United States. Still, the timing drew attention because it came shortly after Vanessa Trump publicly revealed her breast cancer diagnosis. Vanessa Trump, who began dating Woods in 2025, shared an emotional social media message and called him her “strength” while opening up about her health battle.
Even with all the attention around his personal life, Woods’ Memorial Day message shifted the focus back to family, service, and respect for the military. It also gave fans their first direct update from the golf icon in weeks. Tiger Woods has not played competitive golf since the 2024 Open Championship in Scotland, and there is still no official timeline for his return to the PGA Tour.
