Three teen hockey players killed in tragic car crash while heading to practice in Canada

In a tragic road accident, three teenage hockey players lost their lives in Canada while travelling to a team practice. The incident has left the hockey community in deep shock and mourning. The players were a part of the Southern Alberta Mustangs junior hockey club. They were on their way to training when the crash happened.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith confirmed the deaths on Monday, February 2. She shared the heartbreaking news through a social media post. The victims were identified as JJ Wright, Cameron Casorso, and Caden Fine.

The crash took place near Stavely, a town about an hour south of Calgary. According to police, the accident involved a passenger vehicle and a semi truck. Three players travelling in the car were killed on the spot. The tragedy has deeply affected families, teammates, and the wider hockey world.

The hockey community mourns the loss of young lives

Premier Danielle Smith said the province is grieving the loss of three young athletes. She said Alberta is devastated by the deaths of the players, who died while travelling to practice with their junior hockey team. She also shared a photo of their jerseys and sticks as a tribute.

Smith said her deepest sympathy goes out to the families, teammates, coaches, and billet families of the players. She added that the Stavely community and surrounding areas are also sharing in the grief. She said the entire Alberta hockey family is standing together in sadness and prayer during this difficult time.

She also thanked the first responders and medical teams who rushed to help after the crash. Smith said that in the coming days, people across Alberta will support the families and the team with love and care as they face an unbearable loss.

Police said the accident happened at an intersection along Highway 2. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed that two of the victims were 18-year-olds from Kamloops, British Columbia. The third was a 17-year-old from Alabama. The semi truck driver, a 40-year-old man from Stavely, suffered only minor injuries.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the families. The fundraiser aims to help cover travel, funeral costs, and daily expenses for families from both Canada and the United States. By Monday evening, nearly $8,000 had been raised toward a $28,000 goal.
