Olympic champion gymnast Sunisa “Suni” Lee recently opened up about her journey and what truly inspired her to chase her Olympic dreams. On November 5, 2025, the 22-year-old athlete appeared on The Haha Podcast hosted by Evelyn Ha and her sisters Erica and Emily. During the chat, Lee spoke honestly about how her Olympic dream was never about fame or money. “I just never wanted the money or the fame,” she said. “I just wanted to go to the Olympics because I loved gymnastics so much, and that was always my dream.”The 2024 Paris Olympic gold medalist added that she never expected gymnastics to take her this far. “It’s crazy to see where doing flips can take you,” she said with a laugh, describing how shy and new she felt when she first entered the global spotlight. Her words reflected genuine emotion and reminded fans why she remains one of the most relatable athletes in the world.

Suni Lee reflects on her journey, struggles, and comeback

Raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Suni Lee has so far won six Olympic medals, including three at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. She won two bronze medals, one in the women's individual all-around and one in the uneven bars, having helped Team USA take gold in the women's team all-around. Her performance grew even more remarkable as she returned in 2023 after a rare kidney illness.
Though she represented Auburn University's Auburn Tigers, the illness forced her to drop college gymnastics and fight her way back to be eligible for Paris.
