Nottingham Forest icon John Robertson leaves behind a six-figure dollar estate for wife and daughter after tragic death

Nottingham Forest legend John Robertson left behind an estate worth more than £170,000 ($207,000) following his death last year. The former Scottish international passed away on Christmas Day at the age of 72. Newly released documents have now revealed how his wealth was divided among members of his family. Robertson was one of the most iconic players in Nottingham Forest’s history and played a key role in the club’s greatest era.

According to official papers and as reported by The Sun, Robertson’s estate was valued at £176,250 ($215,300) before deductions. After taxes, debts and administrative costs were cleared, the total amount dropped to £168,348 ($205,000). The majority of the money was left to his wife Sheryl, while a smaller portion was given to his daughter Elisabeth. The will, which was originally written in August 2010, was officially approved by the High Court earlier this week, confirming how the football legend wanted his estate distributed.

Legal documents show that John Robertson chose to leave most of his estate to his wife. Sheryl received 75 per cent of the final amount, while their daughter Elisabeth inherited the remaining 25 per cent. His other two children, Andrew and Mark, were not included in the will. According to the document, they would only have received a share if Sheryl had died before Robertson.

Robertson remains one of the most celebrated players in the history of Nottingham Forest. The team won the English league title, two European Cups, and two League Cups during that remarkable period.

One of the most famous moments of his career came in the 1979 European Cup final. Robertson delivered the cross that allowed Trevor Francis to score with a diving header against Malmo FF. The following year, Robertson himself scored the decisive goal from outside the box as Forest defeated Hamburger SV 1-0 to retain the trophy.

Internationally, Robertson represented Scotland national football team 28 times and scored eight goals. One of those came during the 1982 FIFA World Cup in a match against New Zealand national football team.

During his funeral earlier this year, several well-known football figures attended to pay their respects. Among them were Roy Keane, Stuart Pearce and O’Neill.
