No appetite for a trilogy? Oleksandr Usyk looks beyond his British rival Tyson Fury for his comeback fight
Oleksandr Usyk does not appear eager to pursue a third bout with Tyson Fury after defeating the British heavyweight on two occasions. With two convincing victories already on his record, there is little to no public pressure or competitive justification for another fight. Usyk has clearly established himself as the dominant fighter in the rivalry. Right now, his attention seems to be shifting toward fresh challenges
The Ukrainian has already built a remarkable legacy across multiple weight classes. He first ruled the cruiserweight division as an undisputed champion before stepping up to heavyweight. Many fans had questioned whether his style would translate against much bigger opponents. Those doubts faded when he beat Anthony Joshua twice.
As talk continues about a possible fight with Deontay Wilder, Oleksandr Usyk was asked by Ready To Fight whether he would consider facing Tyson Fury again. The question came as Fury ended a year-long retirement earlier this month. The former champion has returned to training and is targeting a comeback in 2026. Fury has made it clear that he still dreams of becoming a three-time heavyweight champion himself.
In 2024, Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury finally shared the ring in a blockbuster undisputed heavyweight title fight in Riyadh. The contest delivered on its hype. Usyk used his footwork, timing, and accuracy to control large portions of the fight. He came close to ending matters in the ninth round, when a sustained attack left Fury needing a standing count to survive. Fury managed to survive, but Usyk did enough to win on points and claim undisputed heavyweight status.
Later that year, the two fought again. The outcome was the same. Usyk once more outboxed Fury to earn a decision victory. This time, only three major belts were on the line, as Usyk had already given up the IBF title. Despite that, his dominance across both fights left little doubt about who was the superior boxer.
Usyk later regained undisputed status by defeating Daniel Dubois last summer. Soon after, he vacated another title, the WBO belt. That move reopened the door for future title reshuffles. It also kept alive the possibility of Usyk becoming a three-time undisputed heavyweight champion, a feat rarely seen in boxing history.
For now, Usyk appears calm and selective. With a perfect record of 24 wins and no losses, he has little left to prove against Fury. His legacy already includes dominance across divisions and victories over elite opponents.
