NFL legend Brett Favre warns about a crucial loss in college football that could impact Nick Saban

NFL legend Brett Favre isn’t holding back about the current state of college football. When asked about the single biggest factor destroying the current NIL era, the former Green Bay Packers quarterback pointed to what Nick Saban has always treated as non-negotiable: loyalty.

Favre stated, “Well, I think the one thing that comes to mind is loyalty, which is certainly something we’ve lost or will continue to lose.”

The primary concern Favre identifies is the complete erosion of player loyalty. He’s been straightforward about how difficult it is to create a “team” when everyone out there is trying to find a better bargain. He even said that players would be "fools" if they didn't accept a multi-million dollar offer to change schools, but he dislikes what that does to the game's spirit. The connection between players, coaches, and the fans is what made college ball special.

Brett Favre is worried about the College Football Hall of Fame's future due to this lack of loyalty. He bought the fact that if a player attends three or four different schools in four years, they never truly establish a place called home.



“I was voted into my university, the Southern Miss Hall of Fame. I played four years there. Fast forward to now, if I were playing now and having a great year as a freshman, and someone offered me, just say, $5 million to go play elsewhere,” Favre said. “I’d be a fool if I took that. I would leave and then probably would leave from there. Probably would leave from there. Where’s the loyalty?"

The whole Hall of Fame was built on the idea of legendary careers at particular universities, and Favre worries that if players are only "renting" their jerseys for a season at a time, then what will happen to future Hall of Famers? It is impossible to give Hall of Fame honors to someone who spent roughly nine months in a program.

Brett Favre also believes that the entire "pay-to-play" culture is exactly the reason why legendary coaches like Nick Saban are leaving the sidelines. The last thing coaches like Nick Saban want to deal with is the constant headache of “re-recruiting” their own roster every single semester.

Favre believes that even though he's still a huge fan, he has absolutely zero interest in becoming a college coach. He’s joked that he loved coaching his high school ball in Mississippi, but he doesn't want anything to do with the present college landscape. It's safe to suppose that he's sticking to his podcast and media appearances to voice his concerns, in hopes that someone will figure out a way to restore some of that "old-school" loyalty to the football field before it's permanently lost.
