Connor McDavid is still the biggest name in the NHL. The Edmonton Oilers captain is known for his speed, vision, and smart passing. As of February 2026, he is once again among the league leaders in points per game and is pushing toward another 140-point season. But while his numbers are huge, one thing is still missing a Stanley Cup title.

Connor McDavid's early life and junior hockey rise

Connor McDavid was born on January 13, 1997, in Richmond Hill, Ontario. He started skating at a very young age and practiced on outdoor rinks near his home. Growing up, he looked up to Sidney Crosby and wanted to follow the same path.

McDavid played minor hockey with the Toronto Marlboros and quickly stood out. He later joined the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League. From 2013 to 2015, he scored 285 points in 106 games, even while dealing with injuries. In 2015, he was drafted first overall by the Edmonton Oilers and signed his entry-level contract days later.

McDavid’s NHL numbers speak for themselves. Through the 2025-26 season, he has recorded 314 goals and 760 assists for 1,074 points in 665 regular season games. That is an average of 1.61 points per game. In the playoffs, he has 60 points in 74 games.

He has won three Art Ross Trophies as the league’s top scorer and three Hart Trophies as NHL MVP. He also has five Ted Lindsay Awards, which are voted on by fellow players.

In the 2022–23 season, McDavid scored 153 points, including 64 goals, and won both the Art Ross and Hart. In 2023–24, he posted 132 points and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. As of late February 2026, he is leading the NHL in points per game again, keeping the Oilers in a strong playoff position.

McDavid keeps his personal life private. He has been in a long term relationship with Lauren Kyle, an interior designer, since around 2015. The couple got engaged in 2024 and lives together in Edmonton. As of early 2026, there is no confirmed wedding date. Kyle is often seen supporting him at games but keeps their life mostly low key.
