Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot believes former head coach Ruben Amorim changed Red Devils despite poor results
Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has spoken positively about former head coach Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese full-back believes the manager improved many areas at the club, even though supporters did not always notice it. Amorim’s spell was short and ended without major success on the pitch. However, Dalot insists the coach raised standards inside the dressing room. He explained that the players quickly understood they had to adapt to a stricter system and new expectations.
Dalot shared his thoughts during a conversation with Rio Ferdinand. He admitted the results were disappointing but stressed that the environment improved. According to him, discipline and professionalism increased during the period Amorim was in charge. The defender also said the squad became stronger because of the manager’s approach. While fans judge performances by wins and losses, Dalot believes the coach’s influence will still help the team in the future.
Diogo Dalot explained that Ruben Amorim was very important for the club’s development. He suggested many supporters may not realize the changes introduced after the coach arrived. The defender said the manager demanded a disciplined environment and wanted high standards. Players had to quickly adjust to his tactical ideas and mentality. Dalot also mentioned that Amorim tried to build a professional culture from the first day.
He admitted performances on the field did not produce the expected results. Even so, Dalot believes the coach succeeded in creating unity inside the squad. He pointed out that several new signings joined because of Amorim’s project and improved the overall quality of the team. The defender added that football is a results-based sport, and managers rarely get much time in the Premier League to prove their methods.
Manchester United dismissed Amorim in January following a draw against Leeds United. The club then appointed Michael Carrick on a temporary basis. Since the change, Carrick has remained unbeaten in five matches.
Forward Matheus Cunha also spoke warmly about the former manager. He said he felt thankful for Amorim’s support and described him as a positive personality. Cunha believes the current success of the team is partly connected to the work done earlier, including attracting new players and building the squad’s confidence.
Manchester United will next play Everton in the Premier League on Monday, February 23.
