American skier Lindsey Vonn shares injury details after hospital airlift as Winter Olympic hopes remain alive

Lindsey Vonn is hurt, but she is not done. Just days after a frightening crash that sent her to the hospital by helicopter, the American ski star says her Olympic dream is still alive. Vonn confirmed she plans to race for Team USA at the Winter Olympics in Italy, even while dealing with a serious knee injury. The update came straight from her, first on social media and then in person.

The crash happened last week in Switzerland during her final Alpine World Cup race. Many believed that injury would end her season and her Olympic plans. Instead, Vonn has taken the opposite path. She says her knee feels stable, her mindset is strong, and she is ready to try. She is not walking away quietly anytime soon.

Lindsey Vonn crashed hard after landing a jump in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. She lost control, slid into the safety fencing, and suffered a torn ACL in her left knee. Because of the impact, she was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

The injury raised immediate concern with the Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina just days away. Soon after the crash, Vonn spoke directly to fans on Instagram.

She said, “If there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s a comeback.” That post quickly changed the tone around her situation. Instead of giving up, she focused on recovery.



At a press conference in Cortina on Tuesday, Vonn explained where things stand now. She said, “We have been doing extensive therapy, consulting with doctors, been in the gym, and today I went skiing.”

She added, “Considering how my knee feels, it feels stable, it feels strong.” With a knee brace, she believes she can race. “With the help of a knee brace, I’m confident I’ll be competing on Sunday.”

Vonn also addressed the mental side of the injury. “I’m not crying. My head is high. I’m standing tall. I’m gonna do my best. I can never say I didn’t try.”

Her first scheduled event is the women’s downhill on February 8. This is not her first battle with pain. Vonn already races with a partial titanium implant in her right knee.

Despite that, she has led the downhill circuit this season, with two wins and three podium finishes in five races. Her comments were made during an official Team USA press conference in Cortina.
