He then explained what happened next. According to him, the treatment for that injury may have caused the issue. Okolie added, “I had a treatment on it and now we are here. I truly hope sense prevails.”

He also made it clear that he is ready to cooperate fully. He said, “I will of course be fully cooperating with all relevant authorities and I’m confident any investigation will clear my name.” For now, he does not want to say anything more. He ended his statement with, “I won’t be making any further comment at this time. Thank you for all your support and see you soon.”

The situation has left the fight hanging. There is still no official confirmation on whether the bout will go ahead. According to The Sun (SunSport), a decision is expected soon. Tony Yoka has not yet made any public statement about the issue.

Officials are also taking their time. The British Boxing Board of Control has not shared a final response yet. They want to collect all facts before speaking.

This fight was important for Okolie. It was set to be his fourth bout in the heavyweight division. He moved up after losing his WBO cruiserweight title to Chris Billiam-Smith in May 2023. After that, he briefly fought at bridgerweight and won the WBC title against Lukasz Rozanski.

Since then, Okolie has stayed active. He picked up wins over Hussein Muhamad, Kevin Lerena, and Ebenezer Tetteh. His last fight came in December, where he looked in strong form.
