Western Bulldogs forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan was caught up in a frightening shooting outside the Love Machine nightclub in Melbourne at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025. Footage from CCTV shows the 23-year-old athlete present when a brawl erupted outside the club entry. Moments later, a gunshot rang out. Police confirmed no one was injured. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan told the Herald Sun that he was “lucky” not to be hit and is being treated only as a witness.

The video shows Jamarra Ugle-Hagan standing on the footpath as two men argued near the entrance of the Love Machine bar in Prahran, Melbourne. One man almost got hit by a car while the other ran inside the busy nightclub.According to police, a gunshot was fired in the fight. The case is under investigation by members of the Armed Crime Squad. Around 2:25 a.m. on Malvern Road, officers confirmed the shooting occurred.
Talking with the Herald Sun, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan said the bullet was only a metre away from him. “It was that close to me, I’m lucky I wasn’t hit,” he said.
The forward added that he did nothing wrong and that the police know he was not involved. “There were 20 people around me and probably another 100 at the venue, but my name is being mentioned like I have some kind of part in it,” he explained.

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan opens up on mental health and football return

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, the 2020 No. 1 draft pick, has not played for the Bulldogs this year due to personal reasons. He told News Corp earlier this month that he is focusing on recovery and wants to return to football soon.“I’m journaling every morning as soon as I wake up. I love training myself and putting myself through something I can get better at,” he said.The forward has also been taking part in a wellness camp and spending time with close friends. Last season, he was the Bulldogs’ top goal scorer, and so far he has played 67 AFL games since his 2021 debut.Despite admitting that being at the nightclub “was not a great look,” Jamarra Ugle-Hagan stressed he is safe. “I’m lucky I’m alive and nothing happened, as it was only a metre away,” he told the Herald Sun. Police said investigations into the nightclub shooting are ongoing.
