Jutta Leerdam showed real strength when it mattered the most. Just two days after a painful fall at the Dutch Olympic Trials, the star speed skater came back strong and put herself back on track for the Winter Olympics. On Friday, Leerdam crashed during the 1000m race, her best event. The fall ended her chance to qualify in that distance and left her in tears. Many thought the setback could hurt her Olympic dream. But on Sunday, she answered in the best way possible, on the ice.
Jutta Leerdam returned for the 500m race and delivered a calm, powerful skate. She finished second and proved she still belongs among the world’s best. The performance has now put her in a strong position to make the Dutch team for the Milan Winter Olympics. Her fiancé, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, was in the crowd watching closely. It was an emotional moment, especially coming just days after Paul’s knockout loss to Anthony Joshua. For both, Sunday felt like a moment of relief.

Jutta Leerdam finished second in the first 500m Olympic qualifier with a time of 37.42 seconds. She ended just behind Femke Kok, who won the race and set a track record at 36.87 seconds.
Later the same day, Leerdam skated again and clocked 37.59 seconds.
While it was slightly slower, it was enough to keep her Olympic hopes alive. Based on her results, she is now expected to secure a spot in the Dutch Winter Olympic squad.
After the race, Paul was seen smiling and giving a thumbs-up to cameras. He later shared a video of Leerdam on Instagram and wrote, “So proud of you warrior @juttaleerdam.”
Speaking to NOS after the race, Jutta Leerdam opened up about how hard the last few days had been. She said, “It was a really tough day and a half for me. You’re feeling so good and riding so hard, then you fall and it’s all over.”
She added, “You can kind of play the victim, but that’s not me. I have to keep going. I want to show what I can do in the 500 meters again.”
Fans quickly praised her comeback on social media. One fan wrote on X, “So much respect for Jutta Leerdam. The pressure was huge, and she still delivered.”
Earlier this week, Paul said on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast that he plans to support Leerdam at the Milan Olympics. He also shared that the couple hopes to start a family soon.
Leerdam later said in a documentary about Jake Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson, “I never, ever expected to date him. But he is the complete opposite of what people think.”
