Tiger Woods conquered the Junior Orange Bowl when he was just 15, back in 1991. Charlie Woods, his son, entered the same arena more than thirty years later, not just as a competitor, but to battle the weight of a renowned last name. Fans are curious to find out if Junior Woods has followed in his father's footsteps. Gratefully, Charlie still has time to develop into a fully mature professional. But before it, the 16-year-old has already proved his golfing talent lately, most recently at the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship.
Charlie Woods has been making the news headlines for a considerable time now. With his outstanding performance, the 16-year-old led his school team to a state championship. Everyone was watching Junior Woods as he took the course at Florida's famous Baltimore Golf Course.
In the opening round on Saturday, Charlie shot a 73 (1 over) with a strong hand. Young Woods is currently tied for 21st place as he enters the clubhouse. And this is a significant accomplishment, considering that 48 male golfers internationally participated in the tournament. Charlie's play greatly impressed the audience.
Apparently, one specific moment caught everyone's attention.
Playing on the 11th hole, Woods had his ball land under a tree. Charlie dropped his club out of reaction after he unintentionally struck a root while attempting to save the ball, causing it to pop back at him. What happened next impressed the entire crowd. Charlie maintained his composure and made a strong long putt for par without feeling ashamed.
Even Tiger Woods had to remark because the action was that intense, “Hell of a shot,” and not only he, but also Charlie’s mother, Elin Nordegren, too, was present to witness her son play. It's interesting to note that Tiger Woods won the same competition in 1991. Currently, Charlie is ranked No.13 in the American Junior Golf Association.
Tiger Woods’ ex-coach Butch Harmon’s honest confession on Charlie Woods
Tiger Woods’ ex-coach Butch Harmon mentioned what Rickie Fowler said about Charlie while examining the possibilities of junior Woods. In a recent Instagram post, SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio revealed a chat that Harmon had with Rickie Fowler.
Harmon claimed that he never watched Charlie, aka Junior Woods, play golf. However, Harmon did speak with Fowler over the 16-year-old's golf prospects. Interestingly, Fowler had a lot of fascinating things to share.
“I was talking to Rickie about it a couple of weeks ago, and we were playing down in Florida, and he’s played with him, and he says he’s gotten bigger and hits the ball really far now, and he’s going to be a good player. So yeah, I would love to have an opportunity to see it up close and personal. And I’d like Tiger to be there when it happened, because we could have some fun with that,” said Harmon.
