Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard’s business empire hit as High Court winds up £1.6m debt company
Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard is facing fresh trouble off the pitch. The footballer’s image rights company has been shut down by the High Court after building up debts of about £1.6 million. The company, called JL Commercial Limited, was responsible for managing Lingard’s commercial work, trademarks, and brand deals. However, the firm was recently given a winding up order after it failed to clear large unpaid bills.
Legal action against the company began in August, and the case was later heard in the High Court. The winding up petition was brought by the law firm Pinsent Masons, which said Lingard’s company owed them money. The development comes only weeks after Lingard’s JLingz clothing brand was also shut down following financial problems. Earlier this year, reports said the fashion brand had piled up debts of nearly £300,000 before it went into voluntary liquidation.
Lingard, now 33 years old, had set up JL Commercial Limited in 2018 to manage his growing brand and business interests. The company also handled trademarks linked to his famous JL celebration gesture and clothing lines.
Lingard originally created the company to manage several business ventures connected to his personal brand. The firm handled trademarks covering clothing, footwear, hats, and his well-known goal celebration. One of the biggest parts of the business was the JLingz clothing brand, which Lingard launched to build his fashion identity away from football. However, the brand struggled financially and was recently shut down.
Earlier reports revealed that JLingz had built up almost £300,000 in debt, which led to the decision to place the company into voluntary liquidation.
While Lingard has faced challenges in his business ventures, his football career continues to move forward. This week, the midfielder completed a new transfer to Brazilian club Corinthians, where he will reunite with former Manchester United teammate Andreas Pereira.
Lingard joined the Brazilian side after leaving FC Seoul in South Korea at the end of last year when his contract expired. During his time in Korea, he made 67 appearances and scored 19 goals for the club. His new deal with Corinthians runs until the end of this year, and it also includes an option to extend the contract for another 12 months.
For now, Lingard will be hoping that his new chapter in Brazil brings better results on the field while his business issues are handled off it.

According to the company’s latest accounts, JL Commercial Limited had debts of £1,562,092. This included £22,500 in bank loans and £36,602 owed to HMRC in unpaid taxes. Because the debts remained unpaid, the court approved the winding up order. This means the company will now be closed and its finances will be handled through the legal liquidation process.Lingard originally created the company to manage several business ventures connected to his personal brand.
