Federico Valverde injury sparks shocking Real Madrid dressing room controversy as Steve Nicol questions Alvaro Arbeloa leadership decisions

Things inside Real Madrid’s dressing room are becoming more tense by the day. The latest problem came this week after midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni were involved in a heated training ground fight that reportedly ended with Valverde being taken to the hospital. According to reports from Reuters and Spanish outlet AS, the incident happened after tensions between both players continued for a second straight day. Real Madrid later confirmed Valverde suffered a head injury and will miss around 10 to 14 days.

The situation quickly became one of the biggest talking points in football, especially with El Clasico against Barcelona coming this weekend. Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol did not hold back while speaking on ESPN FC. He strongly criticized Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa and his coaching staff, saying they should have handled the situation better before things turned physical. Nicol felt the warning signs were already there after the players argued during training the previous day.

Speaking on ESPN FC, Steve Nicol questioned why the Real Madrid coaching staff allowed Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni to train against each other after already falling out earlier in the week. He said the staff should have stepped in before the problem became worse.

Nicol said: “When you’re the coach, your coaching staff and you, when you have a situation where two players who previously have fallen out and who the day before have fallen out, you don’t have the brains to keep them out of each other’s way the next day in a training session.”

He continued by explaining that putting both players on opposite teams only increased the chances of another confrontation. According to Nicol, the coaching staff should have made sure both players stayed away from each other during training.

Reports from Reuters and AS claimed the argument became physical inside the dressing room after training ended. Valverde later suffered a head injury after falling during the altercation and was taken for medical treatment. Real Madrid also released a statement confirming disciplinary proceedings against both players.

The timing could not be worse for Real Madrid. The club is already under pressure after a difficult season, and now they will be without Valverde for Sunday’s El Clasico against Barcelona. With Dani Carvajal also unavailable, Vinicius Jr is expected to captain the side at Spotify Camp Nou.
