5 star players who were shockingly left out of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 squads
The countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026 is almost over. In just a few days, 48 nations will begin their quest for football’s biggest prize. With more teams and more matches than ever before, this promises to be the largest World Cup in history.
But while many superstars are packing their bags for North America, some big names will be watching from home. Every World Cup squad announcement brings surprises, and this year is no different. Several talented players have missed out. Despite strong club performances or impressive international records. Their omissions have left fans debating and wondering what might have been.
One of the biggest surprises is Harry Maguire. The Manchester United defender has been a regular for England in major tournaments. He has represented the Three Lions 66 times and played important roles in previous World Cups and European Championships. However, manager Thomas Tuchel has chosen younger and quicker defenders such as Jarell Quansah and Ezri Konsa instead.
France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is another notable absentee. Injuries limited his game time at Real Madrid this season, but many expected his quality to earn him a place in the squad. Didier Deschamps preferred experienced options and players who featured more regularly throughout the campaign.
Brazil’s squad announcement also raised eyebrows. Chelsea forward Joao Pedro has been in excellent form and contributed goals and assists consistently. Despite that, new manager Carlo Ancelotti decided to leave him out. Neymar’s return to the national team and the inclusion of several attacking options meant there was simply no room for the Chelsea star.
England’s Cole Palmer is another player who will feel disappointed. After becoming one of the country’s brightest talents in recent years, injuries and inconsistent form affected his chances. Tuchel ultimately favored players such as Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, and Morgan Rogers for the tournament.
Finally, Argentina defender Marcos Senesi misses out despite an outstanding season with Bournemouth. The center-back played a major role in helping the club secure European football. However, Lionel Scaloni stayed loyal to the defensive group that delivered World Cup glory in Qatar. Experienced names like Cristian Romero, Nicolas Otamendi, Lisandro Martinez, and Facundo Medina got the nod ahead of Senesi.
