Aryna Sabalenka has clearly said what she wants, both on the tennis court and in her personal life. Just days before the Australian Open 2026, the world number one opened up about motherhood and shared the exact age she hopes to have her first baby. The Belarusian star spoke about this during a recent interview with First&Red. In the interview, she spoke honestly about how her thoughts have changed with time. While she once wanted to become a mother very early, she now feels there is a better time for it.
This comes at a strong moment in her career. Sabalenka started her 2026 season in top form by winning the Brisbane International. She beat big names and did not lose a single set all week. With confidence high, she is now fully focused on the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season. Even with tennis taking priority, Sabalenka made it clear that family is also important to her future.
Aryna Sabalenka explains why she feels 32 is the right age to have her first baby
During her chat with First&Red, Aryna Sabalenka shared how her views on becoming a mother have changed since her teenage years.
She said,
“It was my dream, but I understood that it wasn’t realistic and thought it would be great to have a baby early. In the morning when your mother is young and you can live with her on one wave.”
Sabalenka then explained what she believed when she was just 18.
“I was 18 years old and thought that if I give birth at the age of 25, then it would be great to have a baby early in my mother’s life.”
Now, with more life and career experience, her thinking is different.
“But now I think that giving birth is probably best when you are 32 because I always dreamed about having a big family,” she said.
She also spoke openly about how hard it is to plan everything.
“I have three or four children, but now I understand that it’s impossible to give birth early and quickly. And one after the other at once.”
Sabalenka added that this topic does come up with her team sometimes.
“Of course we talk about this topic from our team sometimes. But you won’t leave me?”
She ended by sharing some calm news about her health.
“It would be nice to do it at 32. But I’ve done all tests and everything is fine.”
On the court, Sabalenka also showed class after beating Marta Kostyuk in the Brisbane final. Speaking at the trophy ceremony, as quoted by WTA Tennis, she said,
“I want to start with congratulating Marta and her team on an incredible start to the season. I hope that we’re going to meet each other many more times in the finals to show great tennis.”
The Brisbane title was the 22nd of her career, her fifth in Australia, and her second in Brisbane. She beat strong players like Madison Keys and Karolina Muchova on her way to the trophy.
