CHENNAI: D Muthuselvan, Harmanpreet Singh and Vinod Rayar scored one goal each as

Indian Overseas Bank

(IOB) edged out India Bank 3-2 in the final of the Third State-Level Invitation Hockey Tournament for the

Indian Bank Trophy

at the

Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium

on Wednesday. Vinodhan and Stalin Ablish scored for Indian Bank.

In hard-line match of the day, Integral Coach Factory (ICF) blanked Southern Railway 2-0.

Vinodhan put India Bank ahead in the 2nd minute by converting a penalty corner while Stalin Abilash doubled the lead in the 9th minute.

But IOB didn’t lose focus despite conceding two early goals and started creating attacks from the flanks and success came at the 12th minute as Muthuselvan reduced the margin 1-2. Indian Bank couldn’t capitalise on the early goals and instead of keeping the pressure on their rivals, they faltered then it mattered most. Their defence looked tensed and disorgansied and had no answer to incessant attacks generated by IOB forwards.

IOB scored the equaliser in the 28th minute as veteran customer Harmanpreet found the target and experienced forward Rayar scored third goal for IOB in the 31st minute to seal the deal. Despite gating several chances both the teams failed to score in the second half as they kept missing the target at regular intervals.

Results:

ICF 2 (Anand Kujur 12th, Deepak 29th) beat Southern Railway 0

IOB 3 (D Muthuselvan 12th, Harmanpreet Singh 28th, Vinod Rayar 31st) beat Indian bank 2 (Vinodhan 2, Stalin Abilash 9)
