KOLKATA: Rashid Khan continued his title march but second ranked Gagan Verma fell by the wayside after the second round of the LG Goodricke Eastern India Amateur golf tournament on Thursday.
Pawan Kumar pulled off the biggest upset of the day as he sunk six birdies to beat Gagan, number two player on the LG Order of Merit list, 5-3.
Delhi's Rashid Khan, however, continued his march as he defeated Abhijit Chadha 3-2 to stay on course for his first matchplay title.
Rashid will now face Karan Vasudeva, who beat Jasjeet Singh 4-3 to book his place in the quarters.
Rahul Bajaj secured a comfortable win against Kanishk Madan and will play Pawan Kumar on Friday.
Meanwhile, local lad SK Pappu put on a fine show to defeat Saurabh Bahuguna by a comfortable margin of 6-5.
The win also continued the strong run of local players, with as many as four of them making it to the last-eight and at least two of them assured of a spot in the semi-finals.
