VILAMOURA, October 17: After a mundane show in the Indian Open, Jeev Milkha Singh will be hoping to put behind his putting woes in the Portugal Masters golf tournament beginning here on Thursday.
Paired with Marc Warren and Peter Hanson, Jeev would need his putting form to really improve to give himself a chance of a decent finish in the European Tour event.
Struggling to make the cut in the Indian Open, Jeev eventually nailed a last hole birdie and went on to finish tied 13th in the Asian Tour event.
He rued he was not trusting his putting but exuded confidence that it would fall in place in the faster greens of Europe.
Another Indian in the fray, Shiv Kapur would, however, strive to continue his momentum.
Unlike Jeev, Kapur's recent form came as a boost for the Delhi golfer who skipped the Indian Open in his quest to secure his European Tour card for the next season.
Kapur has been paired with Andrew McLardy and Stephen Gallacher at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Club and the youngster would like to do an encore of his form at the Open de Madrid, where he finished a commendable tied 18th last week.
Kapur had also struggled with his putting in the final round in Madrid and the Indian would be hoping that things remain under control over the next four days at the Arnold Palmer-designed course here.
The inaugural Portugal Masters would also see some intense rivalry among the trio of Englishman Justin Rose, double US Open champion South African Retief Goosen and Argentine Andres Romero, all of whom would go all out for a victory which would also earn them the Order of Merit.
