Mickelson produces miracle shot to make cut
SINGAPORE: "Will Phil will be there for the final day?" This question was on everybody's mind on Saturday as the skies cleared and the stars settled in for a full day's action at the Barclays Singapore Open promoted by World Sport Group.Mickelson, at four-over-par, was having a tough time for most of the second round as the projected cut was likely at one-over. He brought it down to two-over, but he still needed a birdie on the par-five 18th hole to stay alive. The group of fans following the big trio of Mickelson, Padraig Harrington and Adam Scott was growing impatient, but then the four-time Major winner is made of different mettle. He hit a perfect tee shot into the heart of the fairway. His second shot wasn't exactly great as it landed on a grassy patch in front of the ninth green. It was make-or-break time and with wizardly precision he sent the ball through the trees to the green and then holed the six-foot putt, a shot that Scott, standing by him, appreciated as well. Mickelson smiled, took off his cap, waved at the fans and got in to get ready for the third round which was about to start."On 18 I hit one of the best tee shots I hit all week and one of the worst second shots I hit all week. I don't even know what happened there. But the chip was one of my best as I had to go through the trees, run it up the hill and I hit a really good putt to make birdie and give myself a chance," a relieved Mickelson said.
