NEW DELHI: The upcoming LIV Golf Team Championship set to take place in Miami this month is making waves with a groundbreaking $50 million purse. This significant financial incentive has captured the attention of golf enthusiasts worldwide.
From October 20 to October 22, a dozen teams will converge at the Trump National Doral Golf Club to compete in an exciting blend of match play and stroke play. The seeding process for these teams is underway, with rankings from Nos. 1 to 12 being determined based on their performance in the ongoing tournament in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The top four teams will enjoy a first-round bye and secure automatic qualification for the semifinals. Meanwhile, the teams seeded fifth to twelfth will engage in the quarterfinals, with the matchups slated to be finalized on October 18. Notably, the highest-seeded team will have the privilege of selecting its opponent, commencing with the fifth seed.
The action-packed quarterfinals will feature simultaneous head-to-head matches, encompassing two singles matches and one foursomes match within each competition. The victorious quartet will advance to the semifinals.
The Saturday semifinal encounters will mirror the format witnessed in the quarterfinals, as the four triumphant teams vie for a coveted spot in the finals, where they will battle it out for positions 1-4 on Sunday.
The four semifinal runners-up will engage in a contest for places 5-8, while the four teams eliminated in the quarterfinal stage will strive for places 9-12.
On the decisive Sunday, October 22, all 48 players representing the 12 teams will participate in a round of stroke play. Remarkably, each team's collective performance will be determined by the sum of their four individual scores.
Ultimately, the team with the lowest overall score among the four finalists will claim the prestigious title of the 2023 LIV Golf Team Champion. This tournament's remarkable purse and innovative format are poised to redefine the landscape of professional golf.
