Diksha Dagar climbs to second on LET's Order of Merit
India golfer Diksha Dagar climbed up to second spot on the Ladies European Tour’s Order of Merit, after finishing third at the recently concluded Women’s Indian Open. It's the highest-ever ranking for the talented youngster, who is currently ranked 166th in the world.
Occupying the sixth spot, Aditi Ashok is the other Indian in the LET's Top 10. World No. 53 Aditi is the only Indian women golfer in the top 100 of the world rankings.
The 23-year-old German, Aline Krauter won the Indian Open at the DLF Golf & Country Club, a challenging venue of the championship. The result also continued the streak of rookie winners at the event. Krauter's cumulative 15-under-par 273 gave her a comfortable five-stroke victory over second-placed Swede, Sara Kjellker.
"The first win is very special and I was actually talking to the 2017 winner Camille (Chevalier) earlier this week and she said, ‘Rookies seem to like this course. And she asked "Who's going to be the rookie this week?" and I raised my hand. So here I am as a ‘rookie' winning this event. We did talk about this earlier this week and it's obviously super special that it happened and it worked out this way," as elated Krauter said after pocketing her $60,000 prize money.
Dagar was in contention for the title on the final day, firing five birdies but was undone by two bogeys on the back nine to finish third with a score of eight under.
"I am happy with the way I finished," said Dagar, "I would like to stay in the present. I am going to continue my game and I am going to look out and work on my weaknesses. I am also looking to improve my diet and work on my skills."
The Bengaluru-based golfer Avani Prashanth was the second-best placed Indian in the championship, finishing at tied fifth.
