It took Rajan Singh Panesar ten years to fulfill his dream of joining the prestigious world of F1. As a child, Raj struggled with stammering, attending numerous speech therapy sessions. However, he credits his career for helping him overcome these challenges. "There are ways to achieve what you want. There will be different rules for different people," says Raj.


From a young age, Raj would visit his father’s workplace at a multi-manufacturer company, where he admired the cars on display. His interest in F1 intensified after attending the 2003 Grand Prix, where the roar of the cars and the atmosphere sparked his desire to pursue engineering. He couldn’t get into mechanical engineering but leveraged engineering study materials. Although initially rejected by an F1 team, Raj continued to chase his dream and finally joined Red Bull, where he not only contributes his technical expertise but also plays a key role as a cultural leader, championing diversity and inclusion.

Reinhold ‘Reini’ Bechthold – Storeman at Kick Sauber

Reinhold Bechthold’s life is a testament to the power of resilience. As a child, Reini joined ice hockey to help manage his asthma and succeeded. However, his true test came at 20 when he was diagnosed with diabetes, leading to a life-changing experience. During a trip to Morocco, he fell into a coma for over two weeks. When he awoke, he discovered he was paralyzed and unable to speak. Despite doctors’ grim remarks, Reini defied the odds through sheer determination and learned to walk, write, and live a fulfilling life. His journey took an unexpected turn when he applied for a job in Switzerland, eventually landing a position at Kick Sauber as a storeman—a role he never imagined he would be in.

Aimee Gibbard – Research and Development Test Engineer at Red Bull Racing

Aimee Gibbard’s path to success was shaped by determination and the support of her single father. Growing up, Aimee and her two sisters would spend weekends in their father’s garage, where he instilled in them the belief that they could achieve anything. Despite facing financial hardship after her family lost their home during a bankruptcy, Aimee’s determination never wavered. She balanced work at a restaurant with studying for her exams but still couldn’t make it. Her hard work eventually earned her a spot at a university, which later led to a student placement at Red Bull.

Joe Onyuma – McLaren Social Media Executive

Joe Onyuma’s early life was filled with challenges, including a life-changing rugby injury that led to a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. For six months, he struggled to bend down but his mother’s gift of a camera opened a new world for him, eventually leading him to a role as a social media executive for McLaren.

As a child, Sri Datta Rapaka would dismantle his toy cars to study their inner machinery. His passion for mathematics and puzzles eventually led him to become a mathematical modeller at Haas. At just 16 years old, Sri ranked in the top 1% in an entrance exam conducted by the IITs. After completing his Ph.D., he joined Formula 1, where his expertise in mathematics and modelling is invaluable. Sri believes that India, with its vast engineering talent, has the potential to become a powerhouse in the F1 industry.
