Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli is the only rookie having a terrific first season. He just broke reigning number one Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen’s record by becoming the youngest race leader with the fastest lap at the Japanese Grand Prix. However, racing is not the only thing Kimi has to focus on. The 18-year-old is also juggling driving with studies, as he is in his last year of school and has to do online classes, complete his homework and struggle with his least favourite subject, mathematics.
Kimi Antonelli has to appear for his school exams
“I have final exams, so I’m trying at the moment to fit [in] a date where I can do it, which is pretty difficult at the moment,” Kimi Antonelli revealed on The Fast and the Curious podcast. Opening up about his reason for doing so despite having a blooming F1 career, he added, “I’ve been doing so many years of school and it would be a shame to just quit on the last year of school, and also my Mum really cares about it, so I will do it for her as well.”
He has shared how he cannot attend regular school due to his driving commitments, but he gets the recordings of his classes and receives help from his school, his teachers, and his classmates.
“But definitely it’s tough, and especially this year it got a lot tougher. I couldn’t keep up that much this year because obviously everything intensified massively, but I’m trying to finish it,” he said.
Kimi also revealed how mathematics gives him a “terrible feeling,” but English and PE are his favourite subjects.
Why Kimi Antonelli is the most impressive F1 rookie this year
Kimi Antonelli is doing wonders on the track by keeping up with the competition in just his first season. He secured fourth place in his debut race at the rain-hit Australian Grand Prix. He then secured 7th position in the F1 Sprint and 8th position in the main race at the Chinese Grand Prix. At the latest race in Japan, he secured 6th position while being the youngest F1 driver to record the fastest lap.
