The cherry blossom season has arrived right on time for the Japanese Grand Prix, and fans are eager to fill the stands in their vibrant and colourful costumes. The Formula 1 fans who flock to the Suzuka Circuit each year are often regarded as the most passionate, showcasing their love for their favourite teams and drivers in the most creative ways. This year, the fan excitement is expected to intensify even further, especially with Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda making his Red Bull debut at Suzuka.
Fan frenzy to take over Suzuka once again
From wacky hats and colourful costumes to fans even dressing head to toe as their favourite drivers in race suits, the stands at Suzuka offer a unique energy that creates a distinct atmosphere for the F1 drivers. To match this fan frenzy, the F1 teams have also been putting in extra effort to do something special for their Japanese supporters. After Haas unveiled their floral cherry blossom livery, Red Bull has followed suit by debuting their F1 car in a striking white design.
Recently, the X page of Oracle Red Bull Racing shared throwback photos of fans sporting their most inventive hats at Suzuka, accompanied by the caption, “And the award for best-dressed fans goes to…” Last season, a fan posted a video on X of children dressed as Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez, writing, “Look at the cutest fans dressed as Max and Checo!” Some young fans were also seen holding placards with messages for their teachers, explaining why they had skipped school that day.
When F1 fans praised fans at the Japanese Grand Prix
Charles Leclerc, acknowledging the creativity of Ferrari fans in Japan, remarked at a previous Japanese Grand Prix, “Every time we come to Japan, I think the Ferrari fans are the most creative here by far—like crazy hats, crazy gifts, and this is always nice. And to see so much passion with a lot of respect as well is really, really nice to see.”
Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll also shared his admiration for Suzuka’s unique atmosphere, saying, “The Japanese fans make this a special event because of the energy they bring to the track.”
