Daniel Ricciardo reveals how he found fulfillment after stepping away from Formula 1
Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from Formula 1 at the end of this season brought the curtain down on one of its most charismatic careers. He has said himself that he lost his way during years of racing at the highest level, and that stepping away from the grid gave him space to rediscover who he is. Life outside the paddock, meanwhile, has given Ricciardo time to stop and smell the roses and indulge interests that were put on hold by the ceaseless demands of top-level motorsport.
The Australian has called it a reset rather than a retirement. The 30-year-old Aussie has been freed from race weekends and relentless travel, and has taken the chance to enjoy his life more holistically, all about mental health, personal growth, and real relationships. Although Formula 1 defined much of his identity, he says that this new chapter has allowed him to discover who he is outside the helmet and race suit.
Ricciardo has said he is now able to enjoy little things, once regarded as a luxury, such as being outside, driving at his own speed, and spending time with family and friends. He also pointed out how the slower pace of life had helped him get “a little perspective.” It made it easier for him to appreciate moments he whisked by while hurtling around racetracks.
This is what the ex-Red Bull and McLaren man calls a learning curve, where he learnt patience and more about himself. Rather than chasing results, he has focused on personal fulfillment and enjoying life without the weight of expectations that come with Formula 1.
Outside racing, Ricciardo has been spending more time on his business interests, including his fashion label and wine range. Ricciardo has also talked about the importance of health, creativity, and personal freedom, as well as training for enjoyment rather than for performance.

Daniel Ricciardo on rediscovering life beyond the cockpit
Ricciardo has been open about the transition since leaving Formula 1. He has confessed that the first few months after sport were strange but also liberating. Free from the pressures of performance targets and 24/7 scrutiny, he had time to rediscover himself and those around him.Ricciardo has said he is now able to enjoy little things, once regarded as a luxury, such as being outside, driving at his own speed, and spending time with family and friends. A new chapter built on balance and passion
While Ricciardo is no longer racing full-time, he hasn't turned his back on motorsport altogether. He remains engaged in his ambassadorial roles and in grassroots racing practices, especially those focused on helping young drivers.
