The five-day Barcelona pre-season Formula 1 test came to a close on Friday, where teams provided a useful early insight even without obvious signs of an outright pace. When lap times took a back seat, the distance covered in one lap became a hot topic of discussion, helping to establish a preliminary pecking order before the next Bahrain session. Other teams gave much emphasis to the reliability and system check, and they used the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to test their new packages under severe loads.

George Russell was the most active out of all drivers during the Barcelona test. The driver of the Mercedes finished three days with an inspiring 265 laps, which made him the top in individual mileage. His vast run time showed the focus of Mercedes on sustainability and data gathering at the first phase of the 2026 campaign.
Russell was followed by Esteban Ocon, and rookie Kimi Antonelli came in third place overall, having completed 237 laps in the second Mercedes. The drivers of Ferrari were also in the limelight as Charles Leclerc was registered as having done 231 laps and Lewis Hamilton was registered as having done 204 laps. Pierre Gasly broke the Ferrari dominance, clocking 227 laps with Alpine to back initial hints of the high reliability of the Mercedes-powered cars on the grid.

Mercedes and Ferrari dominate team mileage totals

On the team side, Mercedes proved to be the most efficient outfit during the five days of the test, having gone round a total of five hundred laps. Ferrari came in next with 437 laps, and Haas was right behind with 391 laps, which made them the top 3 in total miles. Alpine made 349 laps, which was in the lead over the Racing Bulls at 318 and Red Bull at 303.McLaren completed 288 laps, Audi achieved 243, and Cadillac had achieved 164 laps further down the order. Aston Martins spent little time on the track and had only 65 miles, as compared to Williams, which recorded no mileage in Barcelona.
