On Women’s Day, Formula E expert Nicki Shields reveals the moment she is waiting for: “When the boys grow up…”
Nicki Shields is a familiar face in the paddock at race events across the globe. Now the F1 Academy lead commentator, Shields is also a Formula E expert and has hosted everything from F1 races to Formula E events and more. On the occasion of Women’s Day, the famous motorsport host looked back at her journey from being around cars during her childhood to becoming a presenter in the field.
Nicki Shields has been able to manage motorsport hosting while being a mom to two young boys and a toddler daughter. She not only juggles work and motherhood successfully but also excels at both.
Talking about her own children, she added, “I'm really excited for when the boys grow up and someone asks them why they love motorsport. They're going to say ‘because of my mum,’ and I'm going to be so proud of that moment.”
Shields recently shared a post on Instagram reflecting on her journey. Sharing a video of herself from a race event, she wrote:
“Over a decade ago, I took a leap and chased my dream of presenting in motorsport in a space where women were rarely given the mic at the time. Fast forward to today, and I get to do what younger me only ever imagined - working in the sport that’s been part of my life for as long as I can remember. A reminder to myself, and anyone else needing it: if it’s your dream, it’s worth the graft. Keep going.”
Shields has now become the lead commentator for F1 Academy.

Nicki Shields shares words of inspiration on Women’s Day
Sharing a word of inspiration for girls like her, Nicki Shields said, “You can do it. If you want to do it, you can do it. Take control of your own journey. No one is going to do it for you. Don't be put off by what you see others achieving, especially on social media. If you lack confidence, build it up and try to find a mentor. Making contacts and gaining experience always helps, so focus on building those. Start going to race tracks or events. Social media can be an incredible tool to get to know the motorsport community when used in the right way.”Shields recently shared a post on Instagram reflecting on her journey.
