Mexico City E-Prix 2026: Nick Cassidy storms to maiden Citroen Racing victory, Edoardo Mortara and Oliver Rowland join him on podium
Nick Cassidy, racing for his new team Citroen Racing at the Mexico City E-Prix, won the race on Saturday. He started from 14th position on the grid after a disappointing qualifying session but went on to clinch the first win for Citroen Racing. He managed to beat Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara and Formula E title winner Oliver Rowland to be the first to cross the finish line. Going by the three-year trend of Mexico race winners clinching title victories, Cassidy now stands as a hot favourite to win the Formula E title this season.
Cassidy improved immensely during the race and picked the right moment to pounce, making use of Formula E's two 50kW, all-wheel-drive Attack Mode power boosts to win the race. He put Mortara under severe pressure, with the Mahindra driver leaving his Attack Mode deployment late. Rowland finished third, as five drivers crossed the line within a second of each other.
DS Penske driver Taylor Barnard joined polesitter Sebastien Buemi on the front row of the grid and managed to lead after forcing the Envision Racing driver into a mistake while defending at Turn 1. However, he ended up in fourth position, followed by Sao Paulo E-Prix winner and FP1 topper Jake Dennis in fifth and FP2 winner Pascal Wehrlein in sixth position.
Cupra Kiro’s Pepe Martí also proved his rookie talent as he overcame a 60-place penalty and a Stop/Go penalty incurred for repairs following his heavy Sao Paulo shunt to secure maiden points while finishing seventh. Cassidy’s Citroen Racing teammate Jean-Eric Vergne finished eighth, Porsche’s Nico Muller ninth, and Nissan’s Norman Nato was in tenth position.
Among other high-profile attendees were Mario Bautista, Daniel Bautista, Paulinho, JUCA, Karina Ramos, Liza Baez, Tio Nestor and Alejandro Berumen. Colombian singer Mike Bahía, music producer Sinego and Mexican singer DJ LABIBE performed live at the event.
