“I was pulling my hair out”: Oliver Rowland back on the podium in Jeddah after two disappointing races
Oliver Rowland is on a roll this season as well after winning the Formula E World Championship last season. The reigning Nissan champion secured his third podium of the season in Jeddah on Saturday, finishing third in the Round 5 race at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. He was joined on the podium by his daughter Harper once again as they posed happily with his trophy, just a day after he felt frustrated about not getting the desired results in the Round 4 race.
Speaking from the heart after the race and thanking his team for their support, Rowland said in a statement, “Yesterday I was pulling my hair out! The last two races I struggled quite a lot; I just had no pace. Last night we changed quite a lot of stuff, so I’m really pleased to be back on the podium. Thanks to my whole team as they stayed late last night and they did a great job.”
Opening up more about his race strategy, he added, “I just wanted to stay out of trouble. From third or fourth backward, it’s quite dangerous with people coming on the outside, and honestly I could go so slow at some points that I could control the pace and be quite comfortable with my target. Of course, Antonio got a slight advantage and I wouldn’t have beaten him today. I think with a slightly different strategy on my side with the Attack Mode I could have finished second, but anyway I’m still happy with third.”
Rowland finished second in Round 1 in Sao Paulo and secured another podium by finishing third in the Round 2 race in Mexico City. He couldn’t get the expected outcome in Miami and then in part one of the Jeddah doubleheader. With three podiums in Formula E Season 12 so far, the 33-year-old stands third in the Formula E Drivers’ Standings with 49 points.
